Double Bill

It's my great honor to have Pine-Thomas Productions: A History and Filmography chosen as one of Classic Images' Best Books of the Year. The "Dollar Bills" and I are in great company here, as you can see below.

The real achievement, of course, belongs to Bill Pine and Bill Thomas, two guys who loved movies, and loved making them. I hope it would please them that their work is remembered and enjoyed in the 21st century.

The Lynley Adventure

From author Tom Lisanti's introduction, we learn that he has, in a sense, been researching a book about Carol Lynley for much of his life. A fan of her work since he was a boy, he has put his knowledge to good use with Carol Lynley: Her Film & TV Career in Thrillers, Fantasy & Suspense (BearManor Media). Miss Lynley also gave the author interviews for the book, not long before her death in 2019.

The sheer heft of this 700+ page book not only attests to its thoroughness, but also reminds us what a busy career she had. Perhaps best-known for The Poseidon Adventure, she worked steadily in film and TV from the 1950s into the early 2000s. So many books in this genre cover the films in lavish detail, while relegating the TV credits to an appendix, or ignoring them altogether. Lisanti gives full coverage to both.

Throughout the text are sprinkled small nuggets of information that may be new even to Lynley fans. Did you know that she auditioned for the role of spoiled socialite Iris on the soap Another World? Though she wasn't chosen, her consolation prize was a short-term role as a judge. His critical commentary is spot-on as well.

This book would make a great holiday gift for the movie buff in your life.

NOTE: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
